The Village of Ligornetto
Ligornetto was already populated in Roman times and is mentioned in a document in 789 as Logurno; the later documents from the 11th - 13th centuries are always connected with estates of certain lands that certain corporations from Como owned in the region.
The municipality of Ligornetto has been independent since 1254, but in the Middle Ages it depended religiously on the Pieve of Balerna and separated from it in 1557.

The winery
Vinattieri Ticino was founded in 1985 in the municipality of Ligornetto, a region traditionally associated with viticulture and wine production. This corner of Switzerland south of the Alps benefits from a Mediterranean climate that favours viticulture. The Merlot grape, planted on limestone soils, comes into its own perfectly in the Vinattieri wines. The philosophy of the The company's philosophy has always been to grow its own grapes directly, and today it cultivates an area of 100 hectares.
The main grape varieties grown are Merlot and Cabernet for the red grapes, while Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Semillon form the basis for the white wines.
With their targeted work in the vineyard, manual harvesting, great care in vinification and the use of barrique barrels, the Vinattieri has been able to gain a lot of experience over the years and made a name for itself throughout the country for first-class wine production. The wines, Vinattieri Rosso, Vinattieri Bianco, Roncaia and Ligornetto stand for the direction of the company and since 1985, they have become unmistakable testimonies of a company that is constantly evolving.

Such a barrique cellar - what does cellar mean? You won't find another barrique arena like this in Switzerland. The wooden barrels are lined up on six levels, from floor to ceiling; The larger barrels for the whites are at the bottom, the smaller barrels for the top reds are at the top.
